Pine My first dovetails project. I did this using an old table as a bench, I screwed down strips of wood as backstops for planing. I stained the top after test fitting the joints and then glued it up. That meant that final planing and cleanup had to be done before the glue up and that the inevitable little problems that come up after gluing couldn't be fixed. I'm not a big fan of differentially staining now.
